On his journey back home he came across the great Atlas. After Atlas telling his sad story of how he was being forced to hold up the weight of the world, Perseus felt sorry for the Titan, and offered to turn him to stone so he would no longer feel the weight of his burden. Atlas agreed, and Perseus took out the head of Medusa and turned Atlas to stone, and from that day forward was known as the Atlas Mountains.
Perseus left the Atlas Mountains and continued back to Seriphos. As Perseus flew over the ocean, he came across a maiden chained to a rock crying. Perseus flew down for a closer look. Perseus landed in Ethiopia.
Perseus went and saw the King Cepheus and his Queen Cassiopeia. The king and queen told Perseus that the maiden chained to the rock was their daughter Andromeda.
The king told Perseus how the queen had brought on the wrath of Poseidon by saying she was more beautiful than Poseidon's wife who was a Nereid. As punishment for such vain words, Poseidon flooded Ethiopia and sent a horrible sea monster to destroy the city.
The king told Perseus that the oracle of Ammon had told the king and queen that the only way things would go back to normal, is if they sacrificed their only daughter Andromeda to be eaten by the sea monster. Perseus flew to Andromeda and killed the beast saving Ethiopia and Andromeda. As thanks for saving them, the king and queen let Perseus marry their daughter.
Invitations were sent out far and wide. This all would have been fine and dandy but Andromeda was already promised to another Phineus, and her want-a-be husband was not about to let her marry another without a fight. The day of the wedding came it was a BIG quest list including many kings and queens from across the lands, one particular guest to mention was Acrisius, king of Argos.
Well Phineus saw his window of opportunity to marry Andromeda closing fast so he crashed the wedding. Phineus tried to attack Perseus. Perseus closed his eyes and removed Medusa's head from the safe keeping of the magic bag.
Phineus was no match for the head of Medusa and he was turned to stone. When Perseus opened his eyes he saw that he had not only turned Phineus to stone but all of the guests that were standing by him including the Acrisius, king or Argos.
Perseus apologized for the mess he had made, and left Ethiopia with his new bride in arm. Perseus and his new wife finally arrived to the island of Seriphos, just in time. While Perseus was away King Polydecetes moved forward in his plans to force Danae to marry him. Perseus heard the news that his mother had been forced to marry. Perseus then went off to find the king and set his mother free. When Perseus arrived, he announced to the king that he had his wedding present, and then Perseus removed the severed head from the bag and turned Polydecetes to stone, freeing his mother from her forced marriage.
Perseus then made Dictys the king of Seriphos. When Perseus told his mother about the events of the wedding party, she was over joyed. It is also noteworthy for the unusual form Zeus took to reach a woman who had been isolated from all chance of meeting a man. The king had ruled for many years but never had a male heir, so he visited the oracle of Delphi to learn if he would ever have a son to inherit his lands. That boy, unfortunately, would only inherit the throne of Argos by one day killing Acrisius himself.
He named his brother as his heir and set to making sure that his daughter would never give birth to a son. Acrisius built a chamber of bronze, usually said to be beneath the floor of his palace, and locked his daughter inside. In other versions of the story he built a high tower with no door, just a narrow slot through which to pass her food.
There was only a small window which was inaccessible. Guards were assigned to make sure no man tried to gain entry with a ladder or rope. All these precautions were no obstacle for a god, however. Not believing the child to be that of a god, Acrisius decided that the boy needed to be killed to ensure his own safety. The only way to avoid this was by ensuring that the child died in a way that was not directly caused by him but could be considered natural or accidental.
By the will of Zeus, however, Poseidon and a group of water nymphs guided them safely to the island of Seriphos where they were taken in by a kindly fisherman. Perseus lived a relatively ordinary mortal life until he was ordered by the king of Seriphos, Polydectes, to kill the Gorgon Medusa and bring back her head.
That was when the young hero once again attracted the attention of the gods. His half-siblings Athena and Hermes gave him assistance on his quest and tools he would need to defeat the Gorgon. According to local myths, however, he went to war against another of his divine half-siblings, Dionysus.
Perseus arms himself with the armor he had stored and never thought to use again. When the Chimera rages upon the village Perseus confronts the creature and cuts the Chimera's serpent tail, and after managing to stab the creature on one of it's two heads, he kills the Chimera by tricking one of the Chimera's head to spew fire while the second head was injured and bleeding a flammable liquid, thus causing the Chimera to burn itself.
Perseus' wounds are attended by Clea. Some time later, he and Helius visit the Mount of Idols, to pray for Zeus to summon him. However Zeus does not appear and a graveky wounded Poseidon appears instead. Perseus is told by Poseidon about Hades and Ares scheme and about Zeus whereabouts. Poseidon gives the trident to Perseus, and tells him to find a demi-god who is in Argos.
Poseidon disintegrates in Perseus hands. Perseus embarks on a new quest, leaving Helius under Cleas' care. He rides the Pegasus once again and flies over Tartarus and other locations until finally arriving to an Argive army camp, where he is received by the soldiers who kneel before him as if he were a god. He asks Andromeda for a favor, which is to give bring to his presence the individual known as Agenor. The God of the Underworld, Hades, has summoned an army of monsters to destroy humanity.
Both Zeus and Perseus are trying to find a way to stop him. If Perseus wins, the Gods will bless him, if he loses, the forces of Hell will be unleashed on Earth and Hades will rule over everything. His myth is very different. Asclepius is said to have been killed by Zeus as Asclepius had brought back Hippolytus back from the dead in exchange for gold.
This angers Hades who asks Zeus to kill him. Zeus kills him with his thunderbolt. She is goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill.
