Ares was an extremely sadistic individual, embracing violence and seeing destruction as ranging from beautiful to hilarious.
Despite being a bloodthirsty and dangerous sadist, Ares was actually a sympathetic father, he tried to be to his children, what Zeus had not been for him and was both loving and protective of them.
Ares went as far as to kill Poseidon's son Alirrothios for trying to rape his daughter Alkippe. His sons Phobos fear and Deimos terror , took it upon themselves to make their father proud by sewing chaos whenever possible, acts greatly appreciated by Ares. Ares fought with nearly every single one of his family members over something or another, the ancient Greeks used this to emphasize how war disrupts all aspects of life.
Ares was Zeus' least favorite son, something which caused mass resentment in Ares and caused him to act out to get his father's attention, which itself was what Zeus disliked about him.
As Athena was the daughter of Zeus' first wife, Metis. Hera tried to raise Ares as a better god of war that would do her legacy proud, but when this mentality just lead him to reject Athena's subtler arts of tactics and diplomacy, Hera was left constantly disappointed that the ambitions she tried to instill in him only ended up disgracing her side of the family.
Poseidon saw Ares' reliance on mortal armies rather than fighting his battle himself to be a sign of weakness, this dismissive attitude would later become outright scorn after Ares killed Poseidon's son, Alirrothios.
Demeter, Dionysus and Artemis saw the environments left devastated in Ares' wake as an extreme annoyance. Apollo saw warfare as a less imaginative art and so as a god of poetry had many verses written on the futility of war. Aphrodite and Ares were lovers and much is made of the primal synchronicity of passion that comes from love and war which is what fueled the relationship, but this also meant Hephaestus, Aphrodite's husband and Ares' brother despised him.
Hades is not often written about interacting with Ares, but he generally did not like to see mortals arrive in the Underworld prematurely since they were all destined to eventually die anyway and it created a lot of work for him, as a result he likely would not have cared for Ares. Athena is the single most prevalent foe of Ares, the two were the ultimate symbol of war, two siblings with the same station but who were so different they were always ready to fight one another.
As Ares represented the brutal aspects of war and Athena it's more strategic ones, the two were used to show that war itself was caught in a feed-back loop with itself. Only two deities actively cared for Ares, not counting Aphrodite who was only interested in sex with him, Eris and Hestia. Eris was goddess of discord and she loved to see simple fights snow-ball into complete wars with Ares' help. Eris followed Ares around as a sycophantic fan of the pain his wars left behind.
Hestia cared for all her family and was his only relative who offered him unconditional acceptance, this was despite Hestia herself being a total pacifist. Due to Hestia being one of his only relatives who showed him unconditional love, Ares decreed that even the most otherwise merciless warlords must never ever harm the priestesses of Hestia, themselves also pacifists, such acts were considered high heresy in ancient Greece.

A Warrior of Ares could annihilate his enemies in a matter of seconds but must watch out for incoming attacks.
The God of War's servants could survive in hoards of enemies by themselves, which made that the best class for Trial of the Gods.
As the original God of War, Ares possessed a formidable arsenal of superhuman and magical abilities - all in correlation with combat and warfare, as these were his spheres of influence. As an Olympian prince and firstborn son of Zeus, his powers were considerably stronger than lesser gods. Being the god of war, violence and bloodshed, Ares is cruel, sadistic, and violent, as seen by his caring only about spreading chaos and conflict across the world.
According to Zeus, Ares only feels joy when destroying cities and nations. Ares is also extremely greedy and power hungry, as exemplified by his wishing to destroy his father, so he can replace him as the new king of gods and the ruler of Olympus.
However, all his attempts to overthrow Zeus failed. He was even arrogant to the point of openly calling out Zeus and challenging his rule. Ares also considered love for one's family a weakness, which is evident by how he tricked Kratos into murdering his family, as he believed they hindered his servant from becoming a great warrior. He would later learn the hard way that he should have been careful with his expectations for Kratos, who slaughtered Ares in turn once he became aware of his machinations.
This shows that Ares never cared much for his own kin, as he plotted to kill his father Zeus and disowned his son Orkos after he could not meet Ares' expectations. His relationship with his mother Hera and brother Hephaestus was unknown as he was not shown despising them. Ares envies his sister Athena, as she was favored by Zeus and was always trying to prove himself as superior to her in every way, such as creating the perfect warrior for example.
Eventually, his hatred and jealousy for his sister makes him attempt to destroy the sacred city Athens; however he was stopped and killed by Kratos, with the support of Athena herself. Ares appears as a giant warrior god. He wears a brown sleeveless tunic, shoulder pieces with wolf faces built into them, and has bracers and boots with chains on them. His boots go up to his knees. He has long hair and a beard, which seem to be made of fire.
Unlike most of the other gods, Ares ignored Zeus's orders and had no fear of Zeus's wrath, to the point that he challenged his father several times while mocking him for sending a "broken mortal" to fight him, instead of facing Ares by himself. Ares has a deep hatred for his sister, as he refuses to even stay in Olympus when she is around.
Ares considers Athena weak and is always trying to prove himself as superior to the goddess of war, or attacking her in every opportunity, as when he would command Kratos to attack the villages and cities that were sacred to the goddess. Ares envies the amount of respect and worship that Athena receives from other deities and mortals, while he himself is hated and despised.
Back in the days when Kratos was still his servant, Ares considered him an almost "perfect warrior", possibly because they both shared the same rage, hatred and love for bloodshed. However, unlike Ares, Kratos still loved and cared deeply for his family; feelings that were considered a weakness by the god of war.
After Kratos abandoned Ares, the warrior god started to despise Kratos, considering him just a "broken mortal" with no value and saying he was every bit as weak as the day the Spartan begged Ares to save his life.
